2019-05-12 · In 1975, artist Bas Jan Ader set out on a three-month Atlantic crossing as part of his new work. He was never seen again. His wife recalls his ‘earth-shattering kind of heroism.’ Bas Jan Ader's work proposes the artist as Greek tragic hero. While Gordon Matta-Clark cut holes in buildings with a chainsaw, Ader was in pastel California falling, waving and weeping.
